The Asbury Park High School Debate team took 7th place at the largest NYCUDL tournament on Saturday at Brooklyn Technical High School. Moreover, E’Niah Preston took 3rd place debating maverick (debating alone) and earning 6th place for top speaker. In addition, the team of Christlie Lavarin and Lucero Ruiz placed 9th in the advanced debate league. The APHS Great Debaters will now practice for their most competitive tournament at Harvard University on February 15-17, 2020 in Cambridge Massachusetts.
The Asbury Park High School Debate Team was launched ten years ago as part of a continuing debate mentoring program with Monmouth University, made possible by a grant from the TD Bank Foundation and actively supported by the Asbury Park School District. The team is co-coached by Asbury Park High School English teacher Ms. Christine DeMarsico and Monmouth University Associate Professor of Political Science Dr. Joseph Patten.
